LVCT

Today, I visited Eric Gitau of LVCT at their office near Yaya Center. LVCT is an NGO which strives toward "universal access to HIV testing and counseling, linking HIV testing to treatment providing evidence for policy reforms and service delivery, developing capacities of indigenous organizations and building sustainable human resources for community HIV services.  

I met Eric while I was with IOM and he is very much a dedicated individual. At LVCT, which stands for Liverpool Voluntary Counseling and Treatment, he serves as the youth programme coordinator. Now they are doing a lot of wonderful things over there, including the One2one youth hotline. It allows youth to call a toll free number (registered through Safaricom) to ask questions or direct their concerns. The hotline offers answers to questions relating to sexual and reproductive health and has offered help to hundreds  in Kenya already. With this LVCT has engaged a portal or digital platform as a means to promote HIV prevention and sexual health amongst youth....

...and this is merely a sample of the work LVCT does. 

Eric, being as knowledgeable as he is, and given the platform that they have with youth, we figured it would be a great idea to collaborate in the area of health and HIV.  LVCT could help us with the educating our participants and facilitating a discussion about HIV and HIV prevention, perhaps with other youth. 

An MOU is set to be drafted! 

He also gave me the contacts of another health organization that we may be interested. So I will check that out as well.
